[Humans of SICA]Doyeon Ku: "enough"

1. You are selected as the next interviewee of Humans of SICA by Hojin How do you feel?

I have previously worked for a magazine and did some interviews to others, but I have never thought of mine. Thank you for SICA to give me a chance to introduce myself.

Hello from..?

2. Please introduce yourself :)

I am Doyeon Ku, and I worked as a PR director of SICA. I am majoring in Information and Interaction Design and Computer Science. I am trying to have my specialty in User Expereince Research and Design.

I like trying things, even though it is something I cannot do. I live patterned objects, especially the one from Kitty Bunny Pony. My favorite food is sushi, and my favorite time of the day is tea time.

I think my strength is in communicating with others and completing works in precise time.

3. You were the PR director of the SICA last semester, so please explain what you have been doing!

Last semester, I started my work as the PR director in SICA. Since SICA is newly built Academia, I focused on making promotional posters and posts on FACEBOOK, while organizing the designs made by previous PR directors. If you have seen any of the recruitment posters around the campus, that was my work😃. I made the visual identity of SICA - basic stationeries and namecards. I also updated the website.

It seems a lot to do, but the whole work is the results made with all members in PR department. I divide the workloads and the whole members participate each one of them.

She worked as a photographer of SICA

4. You've been with the SICA for quite a long time, what is your best memory about SICA?

The workshop held with Minerva School left in my memory. It was not easy to come out with new ideas that targeted single households, but really fun and new to work with them in whole one day. Last semester we went to the field trip, but I hope the workshops to be held again. Cooperating with fresh ideas and experts in different field inspires new possibilities and viewpoints to the given theme.

5. What are your hobbies or interests? Why did you start the activity?

I recently started to learn swimming. I previously tried a little bit, but it was quite short to learn the whole proper posture. This time I am planning to continue it at least 4 months. Good luck to myself🙄.

6. What is your own definition of Social Innovation?

I think Social Innovation is suggesting new possibility to the current situations or problems. I like the little 'Ah!' moment in Social Innovation. It does not have to be big, and it does not have to includes new technology. I think the cases of Social Innovation gives new, intuitive, efficient but sustainable solution to the society.

7. What is the most interesting case of Social innovation among the things you've seen?

It may not seem like Social Innovation, but I was impressed by the bus with lower bottom that goes down when people ride on. I first saw it in Europe, and it helps people ride with wheelchairs and strollers. I was surprised that even people with disabilities go around the city really well. I realized that I had not seen much disabled people using transportation in Korea. I think society gets better by considering all members in the society. It suggested better way to include all.

8. Do you have a favorite saying or motto? (좋아하는 명언이나 좌우명이 있는지)

I like the word "enough". I do not regret on things I have done since I think I did enough to do. I always do my best. However, once it go out of my hand, I think "it was enough". That makes me positive and happy.

9. This campaign is a relay. Please select the person to interview next.

I would choose Haun to be interviewed! I want to hear your story.
