WHAT IS SICA?
SICA is an innovative platform established in 2017 within Underwood International College, Yonsei University. SICA approaches social innovation through three important pillars: technological innovation, economic value, and social impact. SICA allows the students of Underwood International College to join a close-knit community where they can become a catalyst for meaningful social changes.
[Vision]
Bring positive and sustainable social impact to the world.
[Mission Statement]
Incubate global social innovators by providing the right networks for finding the appropriate resources to solve any social problem.
[Program]
SICA holds General Sessions once a week every Wednesday where students gather to learn and discuss social issues that require innovative and sustainable solutions. The general sessions consist of guest speaker lectures from industry experts, alumni talks, discussions, team presentations, and feedback. Student teams may develop their ideas to tackle social problems through either creating a startup business model or engage in probono consulting for social enterprises. Each semester SICA alternates between startups and probono consulting, which allows members to experience many different aspects of social innovation over the course of a one-year membership.
The students not only get to engage in teams to come up with creative ideas, they can also advance their projects through the application of Design Thinking and feedback sessions. We regularly invite SICA alumni as well as successful UIC alumni from relevant fields to join our SICA sessions. Networking is an important aspect of SICA, and the feedback sessions allow for meaningful connections with students and alumni who provide valuable feedback.
At the end of each semester, the teams present their social innovation projects at the SICA Showcase that is broadcast live in front of an audience. This special opportunity allows SICA members to pitch their creative ideas and demonstrate their presentation skills. SICA takes great pride in the high quality of team presentations that are judged by a panel of industry experts and professors at this signature event.
SICA strongly believes that the right technology, a strong business model and an emphasis on social value can form the basis of creative solutions to the world's problems. We now live in the age of Environment, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) and SICA can provide the necessary training in sustainability to become adept at finding creative and practicle solutions that are in demand in the business world, the non-profit sector, and governmental organizations.
