On Saturday 11th September, SICANs enjoyed a special Academic Training Session by Will Kwon. A Yonsei graduate with two CFAs, Will’s career has seen him act as Hub Leader for the World Economic Forum and hold a position as Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company. Using his varied experiences, he was able to share insight into consulting to help members with their consulting projects.

Career Lessons
The 10th SICA General Session featured a Career Talk by Susie Lee, a UIC PSIR alumni. Susie began her career in digital advertising for Yahoo and Kakao and is currently the Business Lead to the Vice President of APAC at Meta (formerly Facebook). The event was also open to RC students from the Appenzeller and Allen houses who were eager to gain insight from Susie’s perspective.

Day 1 commenced with a lecture by Park Sangwook, the founder and CPO for PLAV Corp. His lecture covered many different applications of the metaverse and the ways these applications can benefit us socially. From VR games to cryptocurrency, Sangwook offered insight that certainly helped the later hackathon projects.

[ Taking it Further When You Feel Like it’s Done ]
The 8th General Session of SICA was led by Tae Ho Danny Kim, a SICA alumnus majoring in Sustainable development and Cooperation who is currently working as the co-founder and head of strategy Wrtn Technologies, Inc., and a former investment analyst and ambassador at IHEI. Tae Ho shared his valuable insights as a founder of a technology start-up and as an undergraduate of Yonsei UIC.

Former intern at LOVO AI and current research assistant at SoftBank ventures Asia, Heekyung Ko emphasized the importance of unique school activities. Joining SICA to diversify her school experiences, Heekyung’s Pro Bono ended up being a pivotal learning experience that honed her professionalism in the business world. She also gained the financial knowledge she hoped to learn more about through her time at SICA.

The lecture was based on branding as most teams are working on branding or rebranding for their consulting projects. Jayun mentioned that branding is never completely within a company’s control because customers build their own understanding through interactions. Branding must be holistic and should effectively communicate the desired image to influence purchasing decisions

The second SICA General Session featured an academic session led by Yoonseo (Esther) Chung. Having used her SICA experience to secure internships at McKinsey & Company and Fast Campus, Yoonseo offered valuable advice on how to gain the most from SICA. She advised members of SICA to challenge the status quo, actively take leadership opportunities, and network.

On May 26th, Audrey Shih, Customer Success Manager at Zoom, shared a career talk with SICANs and Allen House RC students. Audrey spoke about her job, explaining what it means to be a Customer Success Manager (CSM). She also answered student questions, covering the topic of majors, university experiences, IT technology field, and careers.

On March 5th, Lee Sohae, the co-founder of JeongYookGak had shared her speech, “Looking from a different perspective”.
The purpose of the Sohae's speech was to influence SICANs to look from a different perspective at a situation, analyze the problem, and think about a solution to tackle the problem.

On April 7th, SICA hosted guest speaker Jihye Ahn, the Executive Director of Underdogs, a company that helps to train entrepreneurs. Jihye shared her journey towards a career in social innovation which began with a trip to Burundi and spanned a decade of trial and error.

[How to find your social mission]
On March 24th, Jeehae Ahn spoke about what it means to find your social mission. Jeehae is a CEO, and social entrepreneur, having graduated from UIC as an International Studies Major.
She began by introducing her company, ST.END LAB, which works with students to help them find their career paths. As a social venture, it has practical applications to current SICA members.

[How to Incorporate Design Thinking to Drive (Personal) Success]
On March 18th, Changwoo Choi, associate product manager at Naver Works Mobile Corp, joined SICA for its academic session. A CDM’12 graduate, Changwoo explained the benefits of Design Thinking.
Changwoo stated that Design Thinking can be used in areas outside of design, particularly in business. He described Design Thinking by noting its multidisciplinary nature, its ability to help solve problems in an emotionally meaningful way, and its combination of feasibility, viability, and desirability.
