[Humans of SICA]HaUn kim: Hakuna Matata

1. You are selected as the next interviewee of Humans of SICA by Doyeon How do you feel?

I am kind of nervous, but I will try my best to respond to all the questions as honestly as I can. :)

2. Please introduce yourself :)

Hello everyone! My name is HaUn Kim and I am a UIC student majoring in International Studies and Sustainable Development and Cooperation. I was the Vice President of SICA last semester, and had worked as the Public Relations Manager the previous semester.

I like reading, eating good food, and spending time with my friends and family. I am very interested in how to make an impact on the way people live their lives, especially through education.

3. You were the Vice President of the SICA last semester, so please explain what you have been doing!

As a Vice President, my job was to work with the 운영진 to facilitate all activities of SICA. Last semester, there were major changes to SICA ranging from the layout of each general session to the spectrum of topics for teams. All members of the executive team worked really hard to provide best opportunities to the members. We especially placed a lot of emphasis in inviting mentors and speakers that can help teams develop their projects to their full potential.

4. How do you compare SICA to a movie?

SICA is like the Incredibles! We are like a family of superheroes that use our respective strengths to help make the world a better place to live in.

5. What are your hobbies or interests? Why did you start the activity?

My current interest is the Blockchain! I started learning about blockchain as a result of my brother’s persistent nagging that I should really start studying this technology. I’ve been enthralled by the potential of the technology that can transform our society in infinite ways and magnitude.

6. What is your own definition of Social Innovation?

I define social innovation as a new idea that fosters social change.

7. You are the member of Collage. Please introduce Collage, one of SICA's umbrella group!

Collage, short for collaboration of different generations, is a student-led organization that targets the problem of “generation gap”. In order to alleviate this worldwide issue, Collage provides a platform to connect the younger and older generations. We have held three offline events so far including <Grandma's Cooking Class>, the <Eco-bag Craftshop>, and <Brunch with Grandma>. We also have an online project called <A Piece> series, where we have uploaded the stories of elderly living in Jeju and London in the form of video and articles on Facebook. If you’re interested, check out our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Collaboration.of.different.Generations/)!

8. Do you have a favorite saying or motto?

Hakuna Matata is my favorite motto, which means “no worries” in Swahili!

9. This campaign is a relay. Please select the person to interview next.

Hyojin, you’re up next!
